Srinagar: National Conference (NC) president and former Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah announced on Wednesday that his party would not form an alliance with any party in the upcoming Assembly polls.
Speaking to reporters, Abdullah stated, “No, there wouldn’t be any alliance,”.
Abdullah’s declaration indicates that NC will not engage in a pre-poll coalition with any constituents of the INDIA bloc partners, notably the Congress party, with which it previously allied in the Lok Sabha elections.
In the Lok Sabha polls, NC opted not to ally with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), another constituent of the INDIA bloc. NC secured victories in the Anantnag-Rajouri and Srinagar seats but lost the Baramulla seat.
NC candidate Mian Altaf defeated PDP president and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti by a significant margin of 2.80 lakh votes. In Srinagar, NC candidate Aga Ruhullah Mehdi won against PDP’s Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra by 1.80 lakh votes. However, in Baramulla, NC candidate Omar Abdullah was defeated by Er. Rashid by nearly two lakh votes, with PDP securing only 27,000 votes and losing its deposit—(KNO).
