Baramulla: On the occasion of the 15th National Voters Day, Social Activist Sheikh Muneer lauded the awareness campaigns that have significantly contributed to increased voter turnout in recent elections.
Speaking at the event, Sheikh Muneer emphasized the impact of initiatives like the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaigns in promoting electoral awareness. “The year 2024 witnessed extensive electoral activity, including parliamentary and assembly elections, with a marked increase in voter turnout compared to previous years,” he stated.
Muneer highlighted the focus on engaging young voters, underscoring the importance of their participation in strengthening democracy. “Our focus has been on young voters, and we have consistently conveyed the message that registering and exercising their right to vote is the most important way to strengthen democracy,” he said.
He attributed the success of these efforts to consistent educational campaigns aimed at ensuring citizens understand the value of their vote. Muneer expressed optimism about sustaining this trend and further enhancing democratic participation across the nation.
The National Voters Day is celebrated annually on January 25 to mark the foundation day of the Election Commission of India and aims to encourage greater participation in the electoral process.
