Srinagar, 8 June 2024 — In a bid to expedite justice and reduce the backlog of cases, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar, under the auspices of the J&K Legal Services Authority, organized a Special Lok Adalat focused on traffic challans and electricity bills. This event, held on June 8, 2024, aligns with the Action Plan for June and operates under the guidance of Justice N. Kotiswar Singh, Chief Justice of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh, and Patron in Chief JKLSA, and Justice Tashi Rabstan, Executive Chairman, J&K LSA, supervised by Jawad Ahmed, Chairman DLSA Srinagar.
The Special Lok Adalat aimed to foster an environment for the amicable settlement of disputes related to traffic violations and electricity bills, thereby alleviating the burden on the courts and promoting swift justice.
Two dedicated Benches were set up for the event. The first Bench was led by Mr. Mudasar Farooq, Special Mobile Magistrate/PT&E Magistrate, Srinagar, alongside Mr. Raja Arshad Hamid, Additional Special Mobile Magistrate, Srinagar. The second Bench was presided over by Ms. Lubna Sultan, Additional Special Mobile Magistrate (13th FC), Panthachowk Srinagar, who also serves as the President of the Bar Association Panthachowk.
The Lok Adalat addressed a total of 11,204 cases pertaining to traffic challans and electricity bills. Remarkably, 10,814 cases were settled amicably, resulting in a settlement amounting to ₹2,19,200. This successful resolution significantly reduced the case backlog and offered litigants a harmonious platform for dispute resolution.
