Srinagar: On a solemn Thursday afternoon, the 10th Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) stationed at Batamaloo, Srinagar, held a heartfelt ceremony to commemorate Martyr Day, honoring the sacrifice of Jawan Reyaz Ahmad Gojar Khatana. The brave soldier lost his life on March 20, 2019, during intense cross-border firing at Village Kundali Barjala Jabda in the Uri sector of Baramulla District, while defending the nation’s borders.
The event, held at the 10 Bn SSB headquarters, brought together officers, jawans, and the martyr’s family members in a poignant tribute. The ceremony began with a wreath-laying ritual, where Commandant Sh. Rohitashwa, alongside senior officers and jawans, paid their respects to the fallen hero. The martyr’s wife, Rabiya Begum, and other grieving family members joined in laying wreaths, their presence a somber reminder of the personal cost of valor. A minute of silence followed, as those gathered reflected on Reyaz Ahmad’s ultimate sacrifice and the gratitude owed by the nation.
As a gesture of gratitude, the martyr’s family was honored with tokens of appreciation, acknowledging their resilience and the vital role they play in supporting the armed forces. Rabiya Begum, visibly moved, stood alongside her family as the SSB community expressed solidarity and respect.
Today’s tribute at Batamaloo underscores the SSB’s deep respect for its fallen heroes and serves as a powerful reminder of the price paid for peace and security along India’s frontiers.
