Sopore: A group of women’s from Haritara village in Sopore town area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, took to the streets on Wednesday morning to protest against the acute shortage of water in the area. The women blocked traffic movement on the Sopore-Hajin road, voicing their frustration and demanding immediate action from the authorities.
Speaking to the media, one of the women protester, said, “We have been facing a severe shortage of drinking water for the last four days. We don’t even have enough water for cooking, bathing, or other daily needs, especially during this peak harvesting season. We have approached the concerned department multiple times, but no action has been taken.”
The protesters expressed their anger over being deprived of basic amenities, pointing out that despite living in the 21st century, essential services like water are still lacking in their area. “This situation shows that all the government’s claims of ‘Har Ghar Nal, Har Ghar Jal’ have failed at the ground level. During election season, politicians come to our village for votes, but after that, they never return. We have now decided not to cast our votes for them anymore,” the protester added.
The women protesters urged the district administration and concerned department to intervene immediately and resolve their legitimate demands. They stressed that a quick solution is needed to relieve them from this ongoing hardship.
As of now, there has been no official response from the local administration, but the protests have drawn significant attention to the dire need for reliable water supply in the area.
