Bandipora, May 7: A 40-year-old woman from the Chandaji area of Bandipora was injured after being bitten by a snake while working in her kitchen garden on Thursday evening.
Family members and locals immediately transferred the woman to the District Hospital in Bandipora, where doctors provided first aid and emergency treatment before referring her to Srinagar for advanced medical care.
On-duty Medical Officer Dr. Irfan said that the condition of the woman is stable. “The patient was provided necessary treatment at District Hospital Bandipora and has been referred to Srinagar for further advanced management and observation,” he said.
Meanwhile, the incident has once again raised concerns regarding the handling of snakebite cases in Bandipora district. A local present at the hospital alleged that most snake bite patients are referred to Srinagar due to the non-availability of essential anti-snake venom medicines and advanced treatment facilities at the district hospital.
Residents have urged the health authorities to ensure an adequate stock of anti-venom injections and strengthen emergency treatment facilities in peripheral hospitals, especially during the summer season when snake bite incidents increase in rural areas.
