Students, locals welcome first major reshuffle in education sector

Srinagar: In a significant step aimed at strengthening the education system in the remote Gurez Valley, the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has transferred 27 Higher Secondary School lecturers from various institutions across Kashmir to fill long-pending vacancies in the region.

The transfers were ordered through Order No. 192-DSEK of 2026 after approval from the competent authority and have come into immediate effect.

According to official sources, several lecturer posts in different higher secondary schools of Gurez had remained vacant for a prolonged period, badly affecting academic activities and creating a serious teaching gap in various subjects.

Under the latest transfer order, lecturers from subjects including Botany, Commerce, Economics, English, Urdu, Political Science, Education, Zoology, History and Physics have been posted to institutions such as HSS Dawar, HSS Kilshay, HSS Badugam, HSS Izmarag, HSS PTL and HSS Baduab.

Officials said the move is aimed at ensuring better academic support and uninterrupted teaching in far-flung and geographically challenging areas like Gurez, where students often suffer due to a shortage of teaching staff.

The transfer list is being seen as the first major reshuffle in the education sector in recent times and has been widely welcomed by students and residents of Gurez, who have long been demanding adequate teaching staff in schools.

“Transfer itself says how much teaching gap was here,” said Irfan, a student from Gurez, while welcoming the decision. He said students had been facing immense academic difficulties due to a lack of lecturers in important subjects.

Locals expressed hope that the newly posted lecturers would help improve the quality of education in the valley and ensure the timely completion of the syllabus for students preparing for board examinations.

Meanwhile, copies of the order have been circulated among all concerned authorities for immediate implementation and compliance.
