Budgam: Authorities in central Kashmir have declared water from three natural spring sources in the Khag area of Budgam district unsafe for human consumption, prompting an official health advisory for local residents.
The warning, issued by the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Sub-Division Beerwa, follows water quality tests conducted by the Block Medical Officer (BMO) in Khag. The tests found that spring water in Zargar Mohalla, Apri Bagh, and Sugin does not meet safety standards for drinking.
Residents in these areas have been strongly advised to avoid consuming water from these sources. Officials stated that the water should be used strictly for non-potable purposes such as washing until further notice.
In situations where no alternative water source is available, authorities recommend boiling the water thoroughly before consumption as a preventive measure against potential health risks.
The PHE department has indicated that fresh sampling and independent testing will be carried out to reassess the water quality. Officials assured that necessary corrective steps and technical interventions will be implemented on priority to restore the safety of these sources.
Meanwhile, local administration and police have been directed to ensure that the advisory reaches all affected communities, emphasizing public cooperation to prevent waterborne health issues.
