Police arrested Two Drug Peddlers in Bandipora

Attaches Properties Worth ₹90 Lakh;

Bandipora: Continuing its sustained efforts to combat drug abuse, the police in Bandipora achieved multiple successes by arresting two drug peddlers in Sumbal and Aragam, recovering contraband substances, attaching properties of notorious offenders, and conducting awareness programmes under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Campaign.

During naka checking near Tengpora Nesbal crossing in Sumbal, a police team from PS Sumbal intercepted a pedestrian identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Bhat son of Gh. Rasool Bhat resident of Safapora, was moving from Naninara towards Sumbal. Upon search, approximately 570 grams of charas were recovered from his possession. Accordingly, FIR No. 80/2026 has been registered at Police Station Sumbal.

In a similar operation in Aragam, a police team from PS Aragam intercepted another pedestrian near Gundi Dachina crossing. The individual, identified as Manzoor Ahmad Khan son of Gh. Mohd Khan resident of Chattibandy, was travelling from Nadihal towards Gund Dachina. During the search, approximately 110 grams of charas were recovered. In this regard, FIR No. 24/2026 under Section 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Aragam. Both accused have been arrested and further investigation is underway.

In a significant action against drug trafficking, Police Station Hajin attached immovable properties worth approximately ₹90 lakh belonging to two notorious drug peddlers under provisions of the NDPS Act. A single-storey residential house worth ₹35 lakh belonging to Mehraj Din Bhat son of Ab Rashid Bhat resident of Vijpara, involved in FIR No. 22/2016 (15 kg charas) and FIR No. 47/2026 (534 grams charas powder).

A double-storey residential house worth ₹55 lakh belonging to Lal Mohd Sheikh son of Late Gh. Mohi-ud-Din R/o Phelipora Hakbara, involved in FIR No. 33/2015 (102 kg charas powder) and FIR No. 47/2023 (2.7 kg charas powder). These properties were attached under Section 68 of the NDPS Act, reinforcing the commitment to dismantle the financial networks of drug traffickers.

Meanwhile, under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Campaign, drug awareness programmes were conducted at Govt Degree College Gurez, Government Middle School Ajas and Cadid Public School Ajas. The programmes witnessed active participation from students and teaching staff, reflecting strong community engagement.

During the sessions, participants were sensitised about the harmful effects of drug abuse, including its physical, psychological, and social consequences. Awareness was also raised regarding the legal provisions and penalties under the NDPS Act, encouraging youth to make informed and responsible life choices.
