Baramulla: Shri G.M. Sofi, State Executive Member & Former BJP District President Baramulla, along with social and political activist Sheikh Muneer, has strongly advocated for the implementation of the ‘One Nation, One Election’ policy, emphasizing its significance in ensuring stability, reducing election-related costs, and enhancing governance efficiency.

Addressing the pressing need for electoral reforms, they highlighted that India, being the world’s largest democracy, frequently holds elections at multiple levels—Lok Sabha, State Assemblies, and Local Bodies—leading to policy disruptions, increased government expenditure, and administrative inefficiencies. The duo underscored that synchronized elections would allow policymakers to focus on long-term development rather than being in constant election mode.

Conduct simultaneous elections for Lok Sabha and State Assemblies to ensure smooth governance.
Reduce election expenditure, saving taxpayer money that can be redirected toward public welfare.

Prevent policy paralysis caused by the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), which frequently halts government decision-making.
Enhance voter participation by making elections more streamlined and accessible.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) spends thousands of crores on frequent elections, a burden on national resources.
The MCC restricts government functioning multiple times a year, delaying critical policy decisions.
Political parties remain in constant campaign mode, affecting governance and policy implementation.
Impact on Youth and Economic Growth
Sofi and Muneer stressed that ‘One Nation, One Election’ would benefit the youth and economy by:

Allowing the government to reallocate funds to job creation, skill development, and entrepreneurship programs like Start-up India, Digital India, and Make in India.
Providing a stable governance model, attracting foreign and domestic investments, leading to job creation.
Encouraging youth participation in politics by reducing the distractions of continuous election cycles.

Urging citizens to support this crucial electoral reform, they called for widespread participation in signing the ‘One Nation, One Election’ petition to build a more efficient and accountable democracy.
