Srinagar: Srinagar Police have attached a double-storey residential house along with four marlas of land worth approximately Rs 75 lakh under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act as part of its intensified drive against drug trafficking in the district.

The property, located at Usmania Colony in the Badamwari Lal Bazar area, stands in the name of Arshid Ahmad Sheikh son of Wali Mohammad Sheikh of the same locality. Police said the accused is a habitual drug peddler and has been booked in multiple narcotics related cases.

According to officials, the accused is involved in FIR No. 50/2025 registered at Police Station Lal Bazar under Sections 8 and 20 of the NDPS Act and FIR No. 31/2025 registered at Police Station Janipur in Jammu under Sections 8, 21 and 22 of the NDPS Act.

During investigation, police established that the house and land were acquired using money generated through illegal drug trafficking. Following the confirmation of proceeds of crime, the competent authority issued formal orders for attachment of the property under Section 68 F of the NDPS Act.

The attachment process was carried out in the presence of the Executive Magistrate First Class Khanyar and two independent witnesses in compliance with legal requirements.

Officials said the owner has now been legally barred from selling, transferring, altering or creating any third party interest in the property.

Police said the action was part of a broader strategy to dismantle the financial structure behind the drug trade and strike at the economic roots of narcotics networks operating in the city.

Srinagar Police said operations against drug peddlers will continue and that properties acquired through illegal narcotics trade will be seized as per law to curb the growing drug menace in the region. [KNT]
