Prominent Kashmiri Poet’s Life and Literary Legacy Celebrated in Hajin Sonawari

Hajin, Jan 12: The Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, organized a one-day symposium in Hajin, Bandipora, to honor the life and literary contributions of the renowned Kashmiri poet, writer, and broadcaster, Mir Ghulam Rasool Nazki. The event featured thought-provoking discussions and papers celebrating the legacy of one of Kashmir’s literary icons.
The inaugural session was presided over by Prof. Shad Ramzan, convener of the Kashmiri Advisory Board of Sahitya Akademi. Mr. Majeed Majaj (Member, Advisory Board) warmly welcomed the attendees, followed by opening remarks from Mr. Shabnam Talgami (Member, Advisory Board), who emphasized the importance of remembering and honoring literary pioneers like Mir Ghulam Rasool Nazki.
Delivering the keynote address, Mr. Muhammad Amin Butt, President of the Kamraz Literary Center and Advisory Board member, lauded the Sahitya Akademi for its efforts to connect poets and writers from remote areas with the broader public. Prof. Shad Ramzan, in his presidential speech, highlighted the exceptional work the Akademi has undertaken in Jammu and Kashmir over the past two years, providing platforms for both established and emerging poets and writers.
The second session, dedicated to academic paper readings, was chaired by esteemed writer and historian Mr. Abdul Khaliq Shams, joined by Mr. Shakir Shafi and Mr. Zameer Ansari on the presiding panel. Several well-researched papers on Mir Ghulam Rasool Nazki’s life and achievements were presented by Dr. Amin Fayaz, Mir Tariq Rasool, Mansoor Montazer, Farooq Hajni, Dr. Adil Mohiuddin Shamil, and Abdul Khaliq Shams.
Prominent attendees included writers, historians, and literary enthusiasts such as Mr. Shakir Shafi, Dr. Basharat Faqir, Rameez Hajni, Shahbaz Ha Kabari, Anayatullah Paray Hajini, and Muhammad Shafi Butt. The event also saw the participation of principals, educators, and a significant number of media representatives from the area.
Mr. Majeed Majazi coordinated the event with commendable expertise. The symposium concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Mir Tariq Rasool, General Secretary of the Literary Forum Bandipora, expressing gratitude to all participants and contributors.
