Budgam: A recreated Bhand Pather play titled “Shikargah” was staged in an open-air setting at Dreygam in Budgam district on Wednesday. The performance was presented by young artists from Tulkul Arts and Media Collective under the guidance and direction of noted theatre activist Rayees Wathori.
The play focused on the relationship between humans and nature, drawing attention to pressing environmental concerns such as the destruction of wildlife habitats, the adverse impact of mining on water bodies, and river pollution caused by waste dumping. The initiative aimed to spread awareness about environmental responsibility through the traditional folk theatre form.
Speaking on the occasion, Rayees Wathori said that Bhand Pather continues to be a powerful medium for addressing social and environmental issues. He emphasized that the traditional art form remains relevant and effective in communicating important messages to the community.
Wathori also informed that the programme was organized without any external support and was personally funded to ensure the preservation and continuity of the centuries-old theatrical tradition.
The audience appreciated the energetic performance of the young artists and lauded their efforts to keep the traditional theatre form alive while making it socially meaningful and relevant.
