Bandipora, Dec 13: In a rare and significant event, a musk deer, locally known as ‘roose kat,’ was captured alive in the Chandeji forest belt of Bandipora district area in North Kashmir.
The wildlife officials and locals collaborated to safely secure the deer, which is classified as an endangered species on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species (IUCN Red List).
The musk deer was spotted roaming freely in the Chandeji forests, drawing the attention of locals and wildlife officials.
Recognizing the importance of protecting this endangered species, the community took swift action to capture the deer alive.
Meanwhile Authorities transfer the musk deer to the Dachigam Wildlife Sanctuary, a protected area known for its conservation efforts and preservation of diverse wildlife.
The capture and relocation aim to provide a safe and conducive environment for the musk deer’s well-being.
The musk deer’s presence on the IUCN Red List highlights the challenges faced by this species and emphasizes the need for conservation initiatives to safeguard its population.
This successful capture serves as a positive example of community involvement in wildlife protection, and the relocation to Dachigam Wildlife Sanctuary aligns with ongoing efforts to preserve endangered species in the region.
