Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday supported making the findings of the Ganderbal encounter inquiry public, asserting that the truth must not be hidden.
Speaking to reporters, Abdullah said a time-bound magisterial probe has been initiated into the incident in which a civilian was killed. He noted that the inquiry was ordered by the Lieutenant Governor following a request from the elected government and is expected to be completed within a week.
He stressed that incidents of this nature should be handled with full transparency. “Such matters should not be concealed, and the truth must be placed before the public,” he said.
The Chief Minister also reiterated that law and order and security-related matters are not under the control of the elected government.
The remarks come amid ongoing controversy over the Ganderbal encounter, where the Army has claimed the deceased was a militant, while the family has contested the claim, maintaining that he was an innocent civilian. The inquiry report is awaited.
