Srinagar, 18 June: In a significant legal development, lawyers representing the National Investigation Agency (NIA) have firmly rejected Engineer Rashid’s interim bail plea. The decision was based on concerns that granting bail to Engineer Rashid could set a precedent for other accused individuals in similar cases.
Abdul Rashid Sheikh, also known as Er. Rasheed, had sought interim bail to attend to parliamentary duties. His lawyer argued before the court, emphasizing the urgency of his client’s oath-taking ceremony.
However, NIA lawyers countered this plea by highlighting the serious nature of the charges against Engineer Rashid, particularly in relation to a money laundering case.
“If bail is granted to Engineer Rashid,” stated the NIA lawyers, “it could pave the way for bail requests from other accused individuals involved in this case.”
