Srinagar, May 9: A National Conference (NC) parliamentary election event held at Palapora Eidgath in Downtown Srinagar has sparked controversy after videos surfaced online showing young girls singing, dancing, and enjoying themselves.
NC candidate for the Srinagar Parliament Constituency, Rahullah Medhi, has responded swiftly, assuring stern action against the event organizers. He distanced himself from the incident, stating, “This neither happened in my presence nor with my consent and knowledge.” Medhi emphasized that the organizers, regardless of their seniority, will face consequences.
Critics, including DPAP leader Salman Nizami, have voiced their dismay over the event. Nizami took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his disappointment, stating, “I held immense respect for your father, but yesterday’s event, featuring Kashmiri girls dancing on stage and chanting your slogans, was deeply disappointing.”
Responding to Nizami’s concerns, Medhi reiterated his commitment to upholding cultural and religious values, stating, “It is my duty to remind you that He would never condone you knowingly or unknowingly helping the fascist forces who took our dignity and rights.”
Former Srinagar Mayor, associated with the Jammu Kashmir Apni Party, also criticized the event sarcastically, highlighting the irony of NC’s attempt to safeguard cultural and religious identity.
The viral videos have elicited widespread condemnation on social media platforms, with thousands of comments denouncing the National Conference’s stance. However, Medhi’s firm response promises accountability for those responsible, aiming to mitigate the fallout from the controversial event.
