Srinagar, Aug 29: In response to the recent tragic incident in Kolkata, Lal Ded (LD) Hospital in Srinagar has ramped up its security protocols to ensure the safety of its staff. The hospital, known as the primary maternity and tertiary care facility in the Kashmir division, has taken significant steps to create a safer working environment, particularly for its predominantly female staff.

An official from the hospital confirmed that they have significantly expanded their CCTV coverage, installing 30 to 40 high-resolution cameras in key areas of the hospital that were previously under-monitored. This move is aimed at enhancing surveillance to deter potential threats and ensure a secure atmosphere for both patients and staff.

In addition to the increased camera presence, the number of security personnel on-site has been boosted. These personnel are tasked with monitoring for any suspicious activities, protecting public property, safeguarding newborns, and ensuring the overall safety of everyone within the hospital premises.

A new committee has also been formed to specifically address issues of sexual harassment. This team, which includes senior staff members and a representative from the Jammu & Kashmir Police, is responsible for swiftly and effectively handling any complaints that may arise. The committee members include Dr. Shagufta Rather, Professor of Gynecology at LDH/GMC Srinagar, Dr. Mehraj-Ud-Din, Associate Professor of Gynecology at LDH/GMC Srinagar, Dr. Sameena Maqbool, Medical Officer at LDH Srinagar, and ASI Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, who is currently on deputation at the hospital.

Additionally, the hospital has established a “Hospital Security and Violence Prevention” committee, dedicated to developing strategies to prevent violence and enhance overall security. To further support female doctors, especially those working night shifts, a dedicated resting room has been set up to ensure their comfort and safety.

An emergency helpline (112) is also in the process of being launched, allowing staff to report any security concerns promptly. Moreover, the hospital has instituted regular police verification for contractual staff and outsourced employees to ensure that all security protocols are strictly followed.

These measures underscore LD Hospital’s commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment for its staff and patients in the wake of the unfortunate events in Kolkata—(KNO).
