Baramulla,27 Mar: In a progressive move towards holistic student development Govt Degree College (GDC) Baramulla has launched an innovative wellness program aimed at promoting both physical and mental health among its students on Wednesday.
The Physical Education department of the college, the program offers a diverse range of activities catering to the varying interests and needs of the student body. From traditional sports tournaments to mindfulness workshops, the initiative seeks to create a vibrant campus environment that fosters well-being.
The program was officially inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Farooq Rather, Principal of GDC Baramulla, who emphasized the importance of prioritizing both physical and mental wellness in student life.
Speaking at the launch event, Dr. Rather commended the efforts of the organizers and encouraged active participation from both students and faculty.
“We believe that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body. Our aim is to provide students with opportunities to engage in activities that promote not only physical fitness but also mental resilience,” remarked Dr. Rather.
The wellness program offers a wide array of activities, including sports tournaments, yoga and meditation sessions, art therapy workshops, and mental health awareness seminars and the students are encouraged to explore different avenues for self-care and personal growth, with the college grounds serving as a hub for recreational and wellness activities.
One of the highlights of the program is the Ramzan Cricket Tournament, now in its 5th edition, which kicked off with great enthusiasm among students. The tournament, organized by the Physical Education department, witnessed spirited competition between teams from various departments of the college, fostering a sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship among participants.
“We are thrilled to see such a positive response from students and staff alike.
The tournament is just one aspect of our larger wellness program aimed at promoting a culture of health and wellness on campus,” said Dr. Tahir, Head of the Physical Education department.
The launch event also saw the participation of students from diverse backgrounds, coming together to celebrate the importance of wellness in college life with the full support of the college administration, the wellness program is poised to become an integral part of the GDC Baramulla experience, nurturing both body and mind for the betterment of its students.
