Srinagar: The Department of Public Health Dentistry at Government Dental College, in association with the Health Centre of the University of Kashmir, successfully organized a comprehensive dental camp aimed at providing free dental care services to the masses on the university campus.
The two-day dental awareness camp was inaugurated by Professor Nilofer Khan, Vice Chancellor of the University of Kashmir, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Ajaz Shah, Principal of Government Dental College and Hospital Srinagar, on June 26, 2024. This event catered to students and employees at the University of Kashmir, as well as schools in the vicinity and under the university’s jurisdiction. The camp is part of the ongoing commitment of the Department of Public Health Dentistry to promote oral health awareness and improve access to dental care services for all.
The oral health awareness and treatment camp offered a range of services, including dental check-ups, teeth cleanings, fillings and restorative procedures, and oral health education. A team of dentists, specialists, and dental hygienists from the Department of Public Health Dentistry at Government Dental College, led by Dr. Aasim Farooq Shah, HOD, and a team of doctors from the University of Kashmir’s health centre provided their expertise to ensure high-quality care for patients. Coordinator of the university health centre, Dr. Khalid Nazir, assured full support for the visiting team.
In her inaugural speech, Professor Nilofer Khan emphasized the university administration’s commitment to the well-being of its employees, highlighting the importance of oral health awareness, which is often neglected. Prof. Dr. Ajaz Shah expressed excitement about the collaboration, emphasizing the institute’s dedication to supporting oral health awareness at the community level.
The camp was equipped with state-of-the-art dental equipment and facilities, ensuring top-notch care for patients. The Department of Public Health Dentistry at Government Dental College organized this free camp, providing free medicine to those in need. Health education sessions on oral health care and preventive measures were also conducted, demonstrating the use of oral hygiene aids like toothbrushes with models and charts. School children from the university model school were among the beneficiaries.
During the closing ceremony, Dr. Khalid Nazir and Dr. Aasim Farooq Shah briefed the media about the camp’s activities. Medical officers Dr. Suraya Jan, Dr. Azhar Ahmed Wani, and Dr. Iqra Mehraj efficiently coordinated the camp’s activities. According to records, the camp, which started on June 26, 2024, at 9:30 am and concluded on June 27, 2024, at 4:00 pm, benefited more than 412 patients from the university campus and approximately 145 school children from the university model school.
