Bashir Ahmad Teroo has converted his residence into a captivating museum at Dawar area of Gurez valley in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
Hailing from Gurez valley’s Dawar area of the district, Bashir Ahmad has expressed his attachment to the Dard tribe culture in a different and unique way by converting his house into a small museum to educate the new generation about past traditions and promote tourism in Gurez Valley.
The initiative is not only preserves centuries-old traditions but also serves as a cultural beacon for future generations.
Bashir Ahmad’s passion for the Dard tribe culture is palpable through his unique museum, which houses a diverse collection of artifacts ranging from intricately crafted women’s ornaments to traditional footwear made of wood and grass.
The museum also showcases ancient clothing and farming tools, offering visitors a glimpse into the traditional lifestyle of the Dard-Shin community.
Since its inception in 2009 with just 75 artifacts, Bashir’s collection has expanded significantly, now boasting over 450 items. Reflecting on the growth of the museum, Bashir Ahmad remarked, “This museum is a testament to the enduring legacy of the Dard civilization in Gurez Valley.
Each artifact tells a story of our past, and it is our duty to preserve and share these stories with future generations.”
With plans to add another hundred artifacts soon, Bashir Ahmad’s commitment to preserving Dard-Shin culture remains steadfast.
Local residents of Gurez valley have warmly embraced Bashir’s initiative, praising it as a place where community members can reconnect with their roots and reminisce about the traditions that define their identity.
