GMC Anantnag Celebrates Milestone Achievement: Bids Farewell to Inaugural MBBS Batch and Welcomes New Students

Anantnag, 27 April: Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, the first medical college in South Kashmir, proudly commemorated a significant milestone in its journey towards excellence in medical education.

The institution hosted a heartfelt ceremony to honor the completion of its inaugural MBBS batch, which commenced its journey in 2019.

The event, graced by esteemed dignitaries, showcased the collective dedication and perseverance of GMC Anantnag’s faculty, staff, and students. Dr. Syed Abid Rashid, the Administrative Secretary of Health, Medical & Education Department (HME), graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, alongside past Principals of GMC Anantnag, including Dr. (Prof) Showket Jeelani and Dr. (Prof) Syed Tariq Qureshi as “Guests of Honour”. Principal GMC Srinagar, Dr (Prof) Iffat Hassan and Prinicipal GMC Baramulla, Dr (Prof) Ruby Reshi attended the occasion as special Guests.

This event stands as a testament to GMC Anantnag’s commitment to nurturing future healthcare professionals despite formidable challenges. Principal Dr. Anjum Farhana conveyed heartfelt congratulations to the graduating MBBS students, acknowledging their dedication and perseverance throughout their academic journey.

She extended gratitude to Dr. Prof Showket Jeelani for pioneering the admission process of the inaugural batch and to Dr. Prof Syed Tariq Qureshi for elevating the institution to new heights.

Dr. Fouzia Nazir, Chairman of the Cultural Committee and Associate Professor, expressed profound appreciation to all participants and delegates for their invaluable contributions to the success of the program.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from all faculty members, consultants, medical officers, paramedics, and MBBS students, underscoring the inclusive spirit and collaborative ethos of GMC Anantnag.

Dr. Abid Rasheed Shah (IAS), Administrative Secretary of the Health and Medical Education Department, graciously extended his gratitude to the esteemed dignitaries present.

He actively engaged with young doctors and students, imparting invaluable lessons in medical education and ethics.

Drawing from his own rich experiences during his pursuit of medical education, he shared inspiring anecdotes, enriching the gathering with profound insights.

The completion of the first MBBS batch, one hundred in number is not merely a milestone for GMC Anantnag but also a significant achievement for the broader community.

Despite the inherent challenges, GMC Anantnag has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to producing skilled healthcare professionals who will serve the region with distinction.

As GMC Anantnag bids farewell to its inaugural MBBS batch, it warmly welcomes the new cohort of students who embark on their journey towards becoming compassionate healers and leaders in healthcare.

The institution remains steadfast in its mission to uphold the highest standards of medical education and healthcare delivery, thereby contributing to the betterment of society and the advancement of healthcare in South Kashmir. Throughout the day, MBBS students participated in various cultural events, engaging the dignitaries and enriching the celebration further.

During the event, Sheeral Salim was awarded the title of “Student of the Year,” while Mir Wajhat, Kaiser Hilal, Mohd Umair, Romana Mir, and Rakhshanda Khursheed were recognized for their achievements as “All Rounder,” “Best Singer,” “Favorite Senior,” “The Inspiration,” and “Helping Hand,” respectively. Additionally, Natiq Farooq and Harris Mehraj were honored with the “Athlete of the Year” awards.
