Budgam: Fresh snowfall was reported in Doodhpathri in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Sunday, bringing a sudden spell of winter-like weather to the popular tourist destination.
The snowfall covered the meadows and surrounding hills of Doodhpathri with a fresh layer of snow, while temperatures dropped noticeably across parts of the district, residents said.
The development comes as several areas of Kashmir witnessed fluctuating weather conditions in recent days due to the influence of western disturbances affecting the region.
Locals said light to moderate snowfall was witnessed in the higher reaches of Doodhpathri during the day.
The fresh snowfall transformed the scenic landscape of the meadow, which is widely known for its lush green grasslands during the summer season.
“The snowfall has covered the meadows and nearby hills, giving the area a winter-like appearance again,” a local resident said.
Visitors and locals were seen capturing photographs of the snow-covered meadows as the sudden change in weather added to the scenic beauty of the area.
Doodhpathri, located about 42 kilometres from Srinagar, is one of the well-known tourist destinations in central Kashmir.
The area attracts tourists during summer for its green meadows, pine forests and flowing streams.
Officials said occasional snowfall in higher altitude areas of Kashmir during early spring is not unusual when western disturbances bring moisture to the region.
Authorities urged travellers and visitors to follow safety advisories while travelling to higher altitude tourist destinations.
Locals said the snowfall may also attract tourists in the coming days as snow-covered landscapes often draw visitors seeking winter scenery even in early spring. [KNT]
