Washington, D.C.: A tense situation unfolded at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner after gunfire erupted near a security checkpoint, prompting immediate action from the United States Secret Service and other security personnel.
According to President Donald Trump, the suspect—reportedly “armed with multiple weapons”—attempted to breach a secured area before being “taken down” by agents. The president was swiftly escorted off the stage as a precaution.
Sources confirmed that all Cabinet members are safe following the incident. One Secret Service agent sustained injuries after being shot in protective gear and has been hospitalized. The agent’s condition has not been officially disclosed.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that the suspect is now in custody and will face charges soon. Law enforcement officials, speaking to CNN, identified the individual as a 31-year-old man from California.
