Authorities conduct awareness drives, water testing, people asked to maintain hygiene
Tral: A few cases of jaundice have been reported from Mandoora village in South Kashmir’s Tral area in Pulwama district, prompting the health authorities along with Jal Shakti Department to initiate swift preventive and awareness measures.
Locals from Mandoora Tral told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a few cases of jaundice have been reported and it may be due to water, which needs to be investigated.
They said that there are many water sources in the area and water of every source needs to be checked for proper analysis.
Officials confirmed that the water samples have been collected for detailed analysis, and the situation is under control.
An on-the-spot water quality check was conducted by a joint team of health and Jal Shakti department officials, along with community health workers. Samples were taken from various water sources in the area to assess the possibility of contamination.
An official told KNO that in addition to testing, the team held extensive awareness sessions with the local population, school children and others. “We educated the residents about water conservation, hygiene maintenance, and preventive steps to avoid water-borne diseases like jaundice,” the official said.
Locals expressed concern over the health scare but appreciated the timely intervention by the administration. “We are worried, especially for our children, but thankful that the authorities have taken immediate steps,” said Ghulam Nabi, a resident of Mandoora.
Health officials urged the public not to organize any panic and advised them to drink only boiled water and maintain personal and environmental hygiene. “The number of cases is limited. We are monitoring the situation closely and ensuring every precaution is in place,” the official added.
Officials said that spots close to some water sources in the area are very unhygienic as locals have throwing all dirt close to these water bodies and area around water bodies is being cleared and locals have been requested to refrain from it—(KNO)
