MLA Beerwah Dr Mohammad Shafi Ahmad Wani Inaugurates Pulse Polio Drive at SDH Beerwah;
Budgam: The National Pulse Polio Immunization Programme was formally launched today at the Sub District Hospital (SDH) Beerwah with the objective of protecting children against poliomyelitis.
The campaign was formally kick-started by MLA Beerwah, Dr Mohammad Shafi Ahmad Wani, who administered polio drops to children in the age group of 0–5 years at SDH Beerwah. The launch event was held in the presence of Block Medical Officer (BMO) Beerwah, health department officials, and frontline health workers.
Speaking on the occasion, the BMO Beerwah stated that all children aged 0–5 years will be vaccinated during the drive at SDH Beerwah and across the block to ensure complete protection against polio. He added that special arrangements have been put in place for the smooth and effective implementation of the programme.
Health officials informed that Pulse Polio booths have been established at designated locations for the convenience of parents. In addition, house-to-house vaccination and immunization at transit points will be carried out by trained health teams to ensure 100 percent coverage, leaving no eligible child unvaccinated.
Meanwhile, a healthy baby was delivered at SDH Beerwah on Sunday during the ongoing Pulse Polio activities. Hospital officials said the delivery was completed in about thirty minutes, reflecting the hospital’s preparedness and efficient maternal care services.
According to SDH Beerwah, the delivery was conducted by a lady doctor with the assistance of medical and paramedical staff under the overall supervision of Block Medical Officer Beerwah, Dr Arshid.
Commending the staff, Dr Arshid said SDH Beerwah remains fully equipped to handle routine and emergency maternal and child healthcare services round the clock. He appreciated the coordinated efforts of the team in maintaining high standards of care.
Hospital staff said the successful delivery on a day dedicated to preventive healthcare highlighted the dual responsibility of peripheral health institutions. Locals and attendants present at the hospital appreciated the prompt and professional handling of the case.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Beerwah Dr Mohammad Shafi Ahmad Wani appealed to the public to actively participate in the Pulse Polio campaign and support the health department in keeping the region polio-free. He lauded the dedication of doctors, paramedics, and frontline workers involved in the programme and stressed the importance of collective responsibility in safeguarding children’s health.
