Jammu, : Surinder Choudhary, one of the most popular leaders of Nowshera Assembly constituency of Rajouri district, has spent only over a year in Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and finally made his entry into National Conference a few days back.
He has remained a force in itself in Nowshera where despite facing the Modi wave in 2014 and also being candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he stood a number two and lost to Ravinder Raina, the incumbent BJP UT chief.
After his exit from the saffron party, Choudhary accused Raina and BJP J&K Prabhari Ashok Koul of forcing him to quit the party. His entry into NC, the grand old party of J&K, will certainly help Abdullahs to regain the lost ground in Rajouri district and pose NC as the binding force having acceptance in all regions and sub-regions of Jammu and Kashmir. NC at present is doing well in the Kashmir valley and despite new parties coming up in the UT after August 5, 2019 decision of abrogation of Article 370 and down grading the erstwhile state, NC still is at the top in the valley. Choudhary’s entry into NC is certainly going to help NC’s mission of regaining the power in J&K.
After delimitation of Assembly constituencies, Nowshera constituency was also bifurcated and Sunderbani area was made a separate constituency and few other areas were made part of Nowshera from where Choudhary is expected to contest whenever elections are held.
Sources told Current Matters that one of the reasons of Choudhary’s exit from BJP was that a senior leader was planning to ensure mandate for his sister-in-law from saffron party and Choudhary was being sidelined. “Even during appointments of local leaders at important party positions, Choudhary was not consulted which further irked him,” said a source.
Choudhary has also lashed out at Raina and Koul and has warned of further exposing them in near future at the right time.
