Talking to reporters after the inauguration of Downtown Cafe at Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, Mirwaiz said the unemployment rate is very high in Jammu & Kashmir and that the youth have been trying their level best to stand on their own feet.

He said the private sector must come forward under these circumstances and help youth create employment opportunities.

Mirwaiz further called for the need to curb drug addiction in Kashmir, saying it must be checked where from the drugs are coming. The government must keenly look into it to save future generations, he stressed.

He also called for helping drug abusers to overcome addiction. “We must shun the social stigma and help the victims come out of this menace. However, we must also act tough against drug peddlers,” he said.

Mirwwaiz said that due to social stigma, most of the drug addicts do not come for treatment. We need to address the social stigma first and understand that addicts are ill people and they need treatment, he said.

He urged society to discard the stigma associated with addiction and called on communities to support individuals battling substance abuse. Mirwaiz emphasized the importance of compassion and understanding in helping addicts recover and reintegrate into society.

The top religious leader of Kashmir advocated for a robust crackdown on those responsible for distributing narcotics in the region—(KNO)
