Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police Headquarters has issued a detailed traffic plan and advisory for October 6, 2025, indicating that the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) has not been fully restored at Tharad, Udhampur, due to single-lane traffic and poor road conditions.
Officials reported slow vehicular movement caused by road damage at Tharad, breakdown of three heavy motor vehicles (HMVs), and the movement of 16 nomadic flocks along the route.
Goods carriers transporting perishable or live stock have been advised to follow previously issued loading guidelines and exercise caution while traveling through affected stretches — particularly Tharad (Udhampur), Nashri-Dalwas, and Marog–Kishtwari Pathar, where the road remains in poor condition.
Commuters have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel on NH-44 due to heavy movement of nomadic herds and to strictly follow lane discipline, as wrong-lane driving could worsen congestion.
In view of rainfall predictions by the Meteorological Department for the coming days, travelers are advised to confirm the road status from Traffic Control Units (TCUs) at Srinagar, Ramban, or Jammu, or through official J&K Traffic Police social media handles before commencing their journey.
Subject to fair weather, one-way traffic for LMVs will be allowed from Srinagar towards Jammu between 0700 hrs and 1000 hrs via the Navyug Tunnel (Qazigund side). No LMVs will be permitted to move from Jammu towards Srinagar. However, LMVs heading to Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban districts from Jammu will be allowed from Nagrota between 0700 and 1000 hrs, while return traffic must cross Nashri Tunnel before 1000 hrs.
Meanwhile, the Mughal Road remains open for LMVs in both directions between Jammu and Srinagar.
For heavy vehicles, movement from Jakheni (Udhampur) towards Srinagar will be permitted only after clearance from TCU Ramban, once down-convoy HMVs cross Tharad.
Security Forces have also been requested not to ply against the advisory due to narrow road stretches and congestion-prone areas between Tharad, Balinallah, Marog, and Kishtwari Pathar.
Additionally, on Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag Road (NH-244), subject to favorable weather, LMVs will be allowed from both sides between 0800 hrs and 1500 hrs as per orders issued by SDMs of Chhatroo and Kokernag.
