Six Injured After Xylo Falls 150 Feet into Drass River; Police Register Case

Drass: Six persons, including the driver, sustained injuries in a road accident near the Matayen area of Drass on Tuesday morning after their vehicle plunged into the Drass River.

Station House Officer Police Station Drass Manzoor Mir told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the mishap occurred when a Xylo vehicle (JK07-4380), skidded off the road near the Matayen and fell nearly 150 feet into the river.

The police officer identified the injured as driver Baqir Ali, son of Asgar Ali, resident of Trespone, and passengers Gurvendar Singh, son of Parkash Singh, resident of Gurdaspur, Punjab; Harpreet Singh, son of Karnal Singh, resident of Punjab; Mohammad Sajid, son of Mohammad Baichu, resident of Balyare, Uttar Pradesh; Abhishek Kumar, son of Bhaisian Kacchi, resident of Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh; and Vijay Kushava, son of Amar Chandra, resident of Jahari, Uttar Pradesh.

He said all the injured were rescued with the help of locals and shifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment. The driver was shifted to Kargil while rest of the injured are being treated at Drass hospital. Their condition is stated to be stable.

In this connection, Police Station Drass has registered FIR No. 65/2025 under sections 281 and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation has been initiated. [KNT]
