Uri: A pregnant woman was carried on the shoulders on Friday evening as a stretch on Daragutliyan to Uri road continues to remain closed due to recent snowfall.
Family member told that the woman developed medical complications this evening and required immediate medical attention. However, a stretch spanning one kilometre, continues to remain blocked for nearly a week following recent snowfall. “Amid accumulation of snow and closure of the road, we had to carry her on foot up to the main road,” they said, adding “from there, a private vehicle was hired to take her to the Sub District Hospital Uri for treatment.”
A relative in the meantime alleged that despite repeated requests, the Roads and Buildings Department has failed to clear the road, leaving residents to manage the emergency on their own.
When contacted, an official of the Roads and Buildings Department told GNS that the road clearance could not be carried out due to a court restraint. The official added that the matter would be taken up with senior officers for appropriate action. (GNS)
