Srinagar: A 43-year-old woman working as a domestic help was found dead under mysterious circumstances at a residential house in Mehboob Colony of the Hawal area in Srinagar on Friday, prompting police to initiate an investigation.
The deceased has been identified as Rinku Orao, a native of West Bengal. She had been working as a maid at the residence of retired government employee for around one year, officials said.
According to police sources, Orao was found lying unconscious inside the house, following which information was passed on to the authorities. A police team from Police Station Zadibal immediately rushed to the spot and took cognizance of the incident.
The body was shifted to a medical facility for medico-legal formalities, including post-mortem examination, to determine the exact cause of death.
Police have initiated proceedings under relevant sections of law and stated that all possible angles are being examined. [KNT]
