New Delhi, September 1: With less than one year to go for general elections and Government calling a special session of Parliament from September 18 to 22, the government of India is seriously thinking about one nation-one election.
The government has formed a panel which will be headed by former President of India Ramnath Kovind to explore the possibilities.
The panel was formed a day after the government called a special five-day session beginning September 18.
Assembly elections are due in five states in November – December and Lok Sabha elections are due in April-May next year.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been a supporter of one nation – one election and forming a panel is a step towards achieving this mission.
