Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party MLA Aga Syed Muntazir on Tuesday said he raised the issue of stranded students in Iran during a meeting with Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs Anand Prakash in New Delhi.
According to the legislator, the meeting focused on the situation of thousands of students who are currently stranded in Iran and facing difficulties in returning to India.
The issue has gained attention after reports emerged that several students were seeking assistance from authorities regarding travel arrangements and safe return.
Aga Syed Muntazir said that during the meeting it emerged that there is currently no immediate rescue or evacuation plan in place for the stranded students.
He said the officials informed him that arranging travel for such a large number of students was proving difficult at the moment.
The PDP legislator said the ministry was exploring a possible route to facilitate the travel of students through Armenia.
According to him, the proposal involves moving students from Iran to Armenia to Moscow and then arranging their travel onward to New Delhi.
However, he said students may have to arrange their own travel tickets under the proposed plan.
Aga Muntazir also said that officials from the ministry advised students to avoid sharing their locations or personal details on social media platforms.
He said the advisory was issued to ensure the safety of students and to prevent them from exposing themselves to potential risks.
The legislator said he urged the authorities to take necessary steps to assist the stranded students and ensure their safe return to India. [KNT]
