Jammu: A sharp political confrontation erupted in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Saturday as National Conference (NC) leader and minister Sakina Itoo launched a strong attack on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), holding it responsible for the current political situation in the Union Territory.
The exchange took place during the ongoing Assembly session when Itoo directly targeted PDP MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, accusing his party of contributing to key developments following the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.
Addressing the House, Itoo alleged that the absence of Article 370 and the delay in restoration of statehood were consequences of PDP’s actions.
“If there is no Article 370 today, it is because of PDP… there is no statehood because of you… we are in trouble and without power because of you,” she said, triggering a heated response from the opposition benches.
Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, who represents Pulwama constituency, was at the center of the verbal clash as tensions escalated between members of the two regional parties.
The incident highlights the continuing political rift between the National Conference and PDP, both of which remain divided over the sequence of events and responsibilities surrounding the constitutional changes of 2019.
Despite the heated exchange and raised voices, Assembly proceedings continued as scheduled.
