Srinagar: The Narcotics Control Bureau Srinagar has dismantled an active narcotics supply module operating across Baramulla and Pulwama with the seizure of 2.730 kilograms of charas and the arrest of three accused, including the alleged main supplier.
Officials said the operation was initiated after specific intelligence inputs indicated the movement of contraband in the Kunzer area of Baramulla. Acting on these inputs, an NCB team intercepted Bashir Ahmad Malla of Dhobiwan on 20 November and recovered 2.730 kilograms of charas from his possession.
During questioning and subsequent follow up carried out with the assistance of Baramulla Police, particularly Kunzer Police Station, investigators detained his associate Mansoor Ahmad Wani of Dhobiwan. Officers said Wani was directly involved in the procurement and movement of the seized substance.
Authorities said sustained interrogation of both the accused led to the arrest of the alleged main supplier, Abdul Rashid Dar, from Pulwama. His arrest, according to officials, helped investigators map the full trafficking chain linked to procurement, transportation and distribution of the contraband.
All three accused, as per officials, have a criminal background related to the NDPS Act. The dismantling of the module has enabled agencies to identify several backward and forward linkages. Further investigation is underway to verify financial trails and possible inter state connections.
An official said the NCB office in Srinagar was established to strengthen enforcement capacities in Jammu and Kashmir. He added that coordinated operations with police units have improved response to narcotics trafficking and related activities.[KNT]
