Minimum Temperatures Plunge Across J&K, Cold Wave Tightens Grip

Cold Wave continues to Grips J&K; Sonamarg shivers at -9.3°C, Srinagar at -4.8°C

Srinagar: Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh reeled under an intense cold wave as minimum temperatures dipped sharply across the regions, with several areas recording sub-zero conditions. According to the data compiled by Kashmir Weather, almost all stations in the Valley witnessed severe night chill.

Kashmir Region

Srinagar recorded a minimum of -3.9°C, marking one of the coldest nights of the season so far. Temperature dropped further in parts of south and north Kashmir, with Shopian (-6.2°C), Pulwama (-5.8°C), Baramulla (-5.9°C), Pampore (-5.5°C), and Anantnag (-5.5°C) facing intense freezing conditions.

Tourist destinations also experienced extreme cold—Pahalgam dipped to -4.6°C, while Gulmarg settled at 0.0°C.
Zojila Pass, as expected, remained the coldest point with a bone-chilling -16.0°C.

  • Kupwara: -4.0°C
  • Kokernag: -1.4°C
  • Srinagar Airport: -4.0°C
  • Awantipora: -5.0°C
  • Budgam: -4.2°C
  • Bandipora: -4.2°C
  • Kulgam: -2.2°C
  • Ganderbal: -2.8°C
  • Sonamarg: -3.1°C
  • Zethan Rafiabad: -5.0°C

Jammu Region

The winter chill has also intensified in the Jammu belt. The winter capital recorded 8.8°C, while higher reaches experienced freezing temperatures.

Banihal (-0.7°C) and Bhaderwah (0.5°C) remained the coldest in the region, followed by Rajouri (2.6°C) and Samba (3.9°C).

Other recorded temperatures include:

  • Batote: 4.6°C
  • Katra: 8.5°C
  • Kathua: 8.0°C
  • Jammu Airport: 8.6°C
  • Udhampur: 6.0°C
  • Ramban: 4.3°C
  • Kishtwar: 4.0°C
  • Reasi: 7.4°C

Ladakh Region

The cold desert continues to remain in deep freeze:

  • Leh: -8.2°C
  • Kargil: -9.0°C
  • Nubra: -6.8°C

Overall

The widespread dip in temperatures signals the onset of harsher winter conditions across Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh. Meteorologists expect the cold wave to intensify further in the coming days.
