Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron has called on Iran to take full advantage of the ongoing diplomatic talks in Islamabad, urging a path toward lasting de-escalation and a comprehensive agreement to ensure regional stability.
In a post on X following his conversation with Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian, Macron emphasized that the negotiations present a critical opportunity to reduce tensions and establish strong security guarantees involving all stakeholders in the region.
He also highlighted the urgent need to restore freedom and security of navigation in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, noting that France stands ready to contribute to efforts aimed at safeguarding maritime routes.
Macron underscored the importance of fully respecting the ceasefire, including in Lebanon, amid ongoing concerns over violations that could derail the fragile peace process.
Reaffirming France’s position on Lebanon, Macron said Paris supports the authority of Lebanese institutions, stressing that only the country’s legitimate leadership has the right to determine its future and uphold its sovereignty.
The remarks come at a time when global attention is focused on Islamabad, where high-level talks between Iran and the United States are underway, raising hopes for a broader diplomatic breakthrough in West Asia.
