Sopore, September 7: Due to continuous rainfall over the past several days, water levels in rivers and streams across Sopore and its adjoining areas have risen, creating a flood-like situation in some places. However, in these testing times, the staff of Irrigation & Flood Control Sopore along with sessional labourers have been working tirelessly, day and night, to ensure that the public remains safe from any potential damage.

According to officials, Haritar has been one of the most vulnerable areas over the last four days. Rising water levels were observed in the region, but due to the timely response of the department and the dedicated efforts of the labourers, no loss of life or property has been reported so far. The teams have been continuously engaged in strengthening embankments with sandbags and regulating the water flow to keep the situation under control.
Local residents have expressed their gratitude, stating, “If these teams were not on continuous duty, the situation could have worsened. They are working without caring for rain or risk, only to safeguard us. We highly appreciate their dedication and service.”
An official from the department told the media that the flood situation is being closely monitored, and all possible measures are being taken on an emergency basis. He further confirmed that, due to the joint efforts of the workers and cooperation from locals, the situation has been brought under control and no damage has occurred. The official also urged the public to remain calm and report any emergencies directly to the administration for immediate assistance.
Meanwhile, the district administration has kept rescue teams on standby to shift people to safer locations if required. Medical teams, police, and volunteers are also on alert to provide any necessary support in case of emergencies.
