Tehran: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has claimed responsibility for a cruise missile strike on the MSC Sariska vessel, describing the attack as a direct response to an US military strike on the Iranian ship Lian Star in the Sea of Oman.
According to a statement released by the IRGC, the operation was carried out by its naval forces as a retaliatory measure against what Tehran called an “aggressive attack” on the Iranian vessel. The group alleged that the MSC Sariska was linked to the United States and Israel.
The IRGC warned that any further US military action against Iranian assets would be met with a “decisive response,” signaling a potential escalation in tensions across the region.
No independent confirmation of the attack or details regarding damage, casualties, or the condition of the vessel were immediately available. The IRGC statement also did not provide further operational details.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf and the Sea of Oman, where military confrontations and threats to commercial shipping have increased in recent months.
