The hot weather is causing a number of problems, including heat exhaustion, dehydration, and wildfires. The authorities are advising residents to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activities in the sun, and seek shade whenever possible.
the capital of Kashmir, witnessed its hottest day of the season today, with a scorching maximum temperature of 34.2°C (93.9°F). This was 6.8°C above the normal maximum temperature for the month of May and the third-highest temperature ever recorded in Srinagar during the same period.
Other parts of the Kashmir Valley also experienced high temperatures, with Pahalgam recording a maximum of 27.1°C (81.8°F), Kokernag reaching 30.2°C (86.4°F), and Kupwara recording 30.2°C (86.4°F).
The hot weather is attributed to a high-pressure system that has settled over the region, blocking any moisture from reaching the ground. This has led to a prolonged dry spell and increased heatwaves in the Kashmir Valley.

The hottest day ever recorded in Kashmir Valley was Monday, May 23rd, 2024, when the temperature soared to a scorching 34°C (93°F). This was the third-highest temperature ever recorded in May in the Valley, behind only 2014 (34.7°C) and 2016 (31.9°C). The high temperatures were due to a combination of factors, including the monsoon season bringing heavy rainfall, which caused a decrease in humidity and an increase in solar radiation. The hot weather also led to a heat wave in the Valley, with temperatures exceeding 40°C (104°F) in some areas.
