New Delhi, May 27: Amid a severe heatwave, the Ministry of Health issued essential heat safety measures for workplaces
The Ministry emphasized the importance of hydration, advising employers to set up hydration stations and ensure adequate drinking water facilities at the workplace. To mitigate heat exposure, it recommended scheduling strenuous and outdoor tasks during cooler parts of the day and increasing the frequency of rest breaks for workers.
The Ministry also stressed the need for training workers to recognize symptoms of heat-related illnesses, which can range from mild conditions like heat rashes to severe and potentially fatal issues such as heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Common symptoms include headache, dizziness, dehydration, and breathing problems.
This advisory comes as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a ‘red alert’ for numerous states in northern India, including Delhi, due to ongoing high temperatures, with forecasts predicting temperatures between 43 and 47 degrees Celsius.
These measures aim to protect workers’ health, ensuring they remain cool, healthy, and productive during the intense heatwave.
