Baramulla: Senior IPS officer Dr. Vinod Kumar on Saturday formally assumed charge as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police for the North Kashmir Range (NKR) at the Range Police Headquarters in Baramulla.
He takes over the position from Maqsood-ul-Zaman, who has been transferred and posted as DIG Armed Police, Kashmir.
Upon assuming office, Dr. Vinod Kumar outlined his priorities, emphasizing professional, transparent, and accountable policing across the North Kashmir region. He stressed that maintaining public trust would remain central to his approach, noting that effective policing depends on cooperation and confidence between law enforcement agencies and the community.
The newly appointed DIG expressed his commitment to strengthening police-public relations and ensuring that policing remains responsive to the needs of the people. He also reiterated the importance of upholding law and order, particularly in sensitive areas of North Kashmir, which include districts like Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora.
