Sopore, Apr 30: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Sopore Police on Thursday detained seven notorious drug offenders under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act, delivering a strong message to narcotics networks operating in north Kashmir.
Officials said the detained individuals were repeatedly involved in drug peddling and other narcotics-related offences. Their preventive detention is being viewed as a significant move to curb repeated criminal activities and safeguard local communities from the growing drug menace.
In another key development, police sources revealed that nearly 23 more habitual drug peddlers and repeat narco offenders are likely to be booked under the PIT-NDPS Act in the coming days. The legal formalities for their detention have already been initiated.
The consecutive action reflects an intensified anti-drug drive by Sopore Police aimed at dismantling supply chains, targeting repeat offenders, and protecting the younger generation from the harmful effects of narcotics across Kashmir.
