Srinagar, June 24: Union Home Minister Amit Shah today introduced Shyama Prasad Mukherjee to the people of Kashmir by laying the foundation stone of his Balidan Stambh in Partap Park Srinagar today.
This has been done to commemorate Mukhejee’s sacrifice when he breathed his last in a jail in Jammu and Kashmir on June 23, 1953.
Mukherjee had died while being in custody in Jammu and Kashmir on June 23, 1953 after he was arrested for entering the state without permit. He was opposing the two symbols and two constitutions in one country and also opposed Article 370 for J&K.
BJP’s politics had been revolving around abrogation of Article 370 and vision of Mukherjee and when on August 5, 2019, Narendra Modi led BJP government abrogated the Article, it was seen as fulfilment of commitment made by the saffron party to the people of the nation.
