According to officials, one case was registered at Police Station ACB Udhampur, while two other cases were registered at Police Station ACB Rajouri.

In the first case, ACB received a complaint against Anil Jamwal, Junior Assistant posted in the office of Superintending Engineer PWD R and B Udhampur, and Jeet Kumar, Computer Operator posted in the office of Executive Engineer PWD R and B Udhampur. The complaint alleged that the duo demanded bribe for issuance of a contractor card. After discreet verification confirmed the demand, FIR No 02 of 2026 under Section 07 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 and Section 61(2) BNS 2023 was registered at PS ACB Udhampur.

During investigation, a trap team headed by a Deputy Superintendent of Police laid a successful trap and caught both accused red handed while demanding and accepting a bribe amount of Rs 12,000 from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses. The bribe money was recovered on the spot. Searches were later conducted at Ram Nagar and Laddan Power House areas of Udhampur in the presence of a magistrate.

In another case registered at PS ACB Rajouri, ACB received a complaint against ASI Zamurat Manhas, who had allegedly demanded bribe from a complainant at Police Station Mendhar to settle a dispute. The complainant alleged that the ASI threatened to book him under the Public Safety Act if the bribe was not paid. After verification, FIR No 01 of 2026 was registered.

The ACB team caught ASI Zamurat Manhas red handed while demanding and accepting Rs 5,000 as bribe. He was arrested on the spot, and subsequent searches were conducted at his residential premises in Mendhar, Surankote and Jammu.

In the third case, ACB Rajouri acted on a complaint against Patwari Mohd Razaq, posted in Patwar Halqa Sokar Prori of Koteranka, who allegedly demanded bribe for recording the names of the complainant’s three daughters in the revenue records. After registration of FIR No 02 of 2026 at PS ACB Rajouri, a trap was laid and the Patwari was caught red handed while accepting Rs 10,000 as bribe. He was arrested on the spot and searches were carried out at his residence.

Officials said further investigation in all three cases is going on. [KNT]
