District Drug De-Addiction Centre Bandipora Hosts Capacity Building Programme on Ekta Diwas – UT Foundation Day

Bandipora, October 31: On the occasion of J&K UT Foundation Day, the District Drug De-Addiction Centre (DDAC) in Bandipora conducted a comprehensive day long Capacity Building Programme under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR). The event, which took place at Conference Hall, District Drug De-Addiction Centre Bandipora brought together various stakeholders, including members of the District Development Council (DDC), Block Development Council (BDC), Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), Teachers, Health Officials, Asha Workers, ICDS and other frontline workers.

This significant initiative was organized by the District Drug De-Addiction Centre Bandipora, IA-JKSWM in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department Bandipora. The event bore the esteemed leadership of Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Dr. Owais Ahmed, IAS, and the guidance of District Social Welfare Officer, Hidayatullah Mir, JKAS.

The programme began with a warm welcome note delivered by Ms. Rehana Akhter, Manager, DDAC. The gathering was then addressed by various experts, shedding light on critical aspects of drug addiction and its impact on society.

Advocate Mudasir Nazir, a Counselor at DDAC, provided insights into the effects of drug abuse. Mr. Jawhar Ahmad, Outreach Worker at DDAC, highlighted the essential role of public representatives, PRIs, teachers, students, and employees in combating the drug menace.

Miss Sameena Shafi, a Nurse at DDAC, gracefully anchored the proceedings. Dr. Umair Quyoom, Medical Officer, presented medical aspects related to drug abuse, offering valuable information to the audience.

Mr. Junaid Gazi, Counselor, ATF, delivered a speech on drug addiction and the process of de-addiction. Ms. Nighat Nageen, Project Coordinator, DDAC Bandipora, provided an overview of the facilities and services available free of cost to patients at DDAC, emphasizing both Inpatient (IPD) and Outpatient (OPD) care.

Adding a multimedia dimension to the event, Mr. Altaf Hussain, DEO DDAC, presented a captivating PowerPoint presentation about the services and facilities at DDAC. Ms. Rukhshana Ali, Nurse at DDAC, concluded the programme by extending warm thanks to all the distinguished guests and organizers.

In addition to the enlightening sessions, informational and educational materials were distributed among the participants, including posters and pamphlets that showcased the services offered by DDAC.

The event witnessed the active participation of a large number of attendees, including members of the DDC, BDC, PRIs, teachers, ICDS workers, health officials, and representatives from various other departments. Participants praised the event and expressed their appreciation for the pivotal role played by the District Drug De-Addiction Centre in combatting the drug menace within society.

The Capacity Building Programme on UT Foundation Day held at DDAC Bandipora served as a crucial step in raising awareness and equipping individuals and institutions with the knowledge and tools needed to address the challenges posed by drug addiction in the region.
