Kashmir’s popularity growing on global scale: Director Tourism
Srinagar: As the year 2024 comes to a close, Jammu and Kashmir has experienced a transformative period marked by both challenges and achievements. Among the standout developments was the resurgence of the tourism sector, a lifeline for Kashmir often referred to as “Paradise on Earth.”
The year saw an influx of both domestic and international visitors.
According to official data, Jammu and Kashmir welcomed approximately 3 million tourists this year. This remarkable number included pilgrims of the Amarnath Yatra and visitors drawn by the natural beauty of the region.
Notably, the health resort of Sonamarg emerged as a major attraction, with 817,708 tourists basking in its serene landscapes and breathtaking vistas.
The Director Tourism, Kashmir, Raja Yaqoob highlighted the significance of this record-breaking year. Speaking over the phone, he said that the unprecedented arrival of 3 million tourists has elevated the tourism sector to new heights. “The influx of foreign tourists, coupled with a surge in domestic visitors, reflects the Kashmir’s growing popularity on a global scale,” he said.
Raja Yaqoob expressed optimism for the coming year, stating that the department is committed to further promoting Jammu and Kashmir’s unparalleled natural beauty and warm hospitality. “Plans are underway to enhance the global profile of the valley, ensuring its continued growth as a premier travel destination,” he said adding that the focus will remain on sustaining this momentum while preserving the cultural and ecological heritage that makes Valley unique.
