Bandipora: In a breakthrough in the ongoing drive against drug trafficking, Police Station Aragam achieved a significant success by seizing a substantial quantity of contraband substance and arresting an accused involved in drug peddling in the area.
According to official sources, acting on routine naka checking and heightened surveillance, police personnel apprehended a suspicious individual identified as Irshad Ahmad, a resident of Brar, Bandipora. During the search, the police recovered approximately 850 grams of charas from his possession. The accused was immediately taken into custody and the contraband substance was seized as per legal procedures.
In this regard, a case has been registered under FIR No. 23/2026 under sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Aragam, and further investigation has been initiated to unearth possible links and networks involved in the illegal trade.
Notably, this case marks a first-of-its-kind instance at Police Station Aragam, where the recovered contraband was weighed on the spot at the place of recovery before registration of the FIR, ensuring greater transparency, accountability, and adherence to legal protocols in handling narcotics-related cases.
The swift and professional action of the police has been widely appreciated by the residents. Several locals hailed the move as a strong step towards curbing the growing menace of drugs in the region. They emphasised that such strict actions would act as a deterrent for those involved in drug peddling.
Residents also urged the community to play an active role in fighting drug abuse. “It is not just the responsibility of the police, but of society as a whole. People must come forward and help identify drug addicts and peddlers so that timely intervention can be ensured,” said a local elder.
The locals further appealed to parents and youth to remain vigilant and work collectively to safeguard the younger generation from falling prey to substance abuse.
Meanwhile, police officials reiterated their commitment to intensifying the anti-drug campaign and assured that strict action will continue against those involved in the narcotics trade. They also appealed to the public to share any information related to drug peddling, assuring complete confidentiality of informants.
The action is being seen as part of a broader effort to make Bandipora a drug-free district and to strengthen the ongoing fight against substance abuse under nationwide initiatives.
