Jammu : Two heavily armed militants were killed in Krishnaghati sector on Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district when Army and Jammu and Kashmir police foiled a major infiltration attempt today.
The body of one militant was recovered by security forces whereas body of another militant has fallen into Poonch river.
Giving details, Jammu based defence spokesman Lt. Col. Suneel Bartwal said that during the intervening night of July 16-17, movement of infiltrators was observed in the KG sector on LoC near the Poonch River moving from across the line of Control towards this side. “After that a joint operation was launched by Army and police and alert troops established anti infiltration posture in multiple tiers to prevent any terrorist from escaping.”
“In the early hours of the morning contact was established which led to heavy volume of fire being exchanged. In the ensuing fire fight two terrorists were hit. One of the terrorist fell on the spot while the other terrorist was observed falling in the Poonch River,” PRO Defence said.
In a deliberate and massive search operation body of one terrorist has been recovered from the site, he added.
The defence spokesman said that major war like stores were recovered, which included One AK 74 rifle with magazine, Eleven rounds and other stores for sustenance.
He said that by their quick action, alert troops of Indian Army and Jammu Kashmir Police have eliminated a major infiltration bid, which was aimed to disturb the peace in Poonch District. “The Security Forces continue to remain alert on the Line of Control and is fully prepared to thwart such attempts in the future too,” Lt Col Bartwal added.
